For the first week of literature circles, my group decided to read the first part of The Short Bus by Jonathan Mooney. In the first part of the book, the narrator Jonathan, tells about his story of owning and buying a short bus to go across the country and meet kids who have disabilities so the author can help them and tell them his personal story. When Jonathan was younger, he was first diagnosed as having a learning disability which broke him down. The way his teachers acted towards him did not help him at all and just the way they talked and treated him just made everything worse. He had to leave school for awhile and then move into another school district with teachers who could really help him and not treat him the way his old teachers treated him. But now, as an adult, he has recovered from that and wants to share his success story with other people, which I find very inspirational for him to do. Another reason for Jon to take this travel across the country is to find himself and find other ways to better understand himself and what exactly happened years ago when he was told he had a learning disability. This book has really caught my attention in just the first few pages of the book, so I am really looking forward to see what other people he gets to meet along his journey and what he discovers of himself.
